April PAD 19: Cloud 9

They call it falling
in love
because
it is a state of groundlessness
that chips away
the tiles beneath your feet
and cools
the still-growing grass,
melts the harsh concrete
and fastens traction
to the air
so when we begin
walking side by side,
we won’t notice
the curb curbing to collide
and as we trip,
like dominoes
(me first, then you
cursing at your toes),
we realize if we don’t
fall together
we fall apart.
