Florida Writers Association: The Experience

Last year I mentioned briefly my interest in attending the Florida Writers Association’s annual conference with little idea of what that would mean for my writing career. This year I attended, after being prodded by my good friend Donna Fernandez, and I came away with new expectations for myself, newfound confidence, and new friends that are motivating me to become a better writer.

But that’s not all! The most amazing thing happened! I was considered as a finalist in the Royal Palm Literary award, that I mentioned here, but I had no idea this would happen:

I placed third in the unpublished Poetry category for “Greedy,” a poem I had written during a Poem-a-Day challenge. Donna’s poem “Petal Fists” earned second place. I write in great company.

My next post will feature more lessons learned, but for now I leave you with this: The only validation you need is your own permission to be great.
